Early Life

Kevin Maurice Garnett was born May 19, 1976, in Greenville, South Carolina, United States.

His parents, Shirley Carolina and O’Lewis McCullough, were never legally married, and his father abandoned his mother after he was born. Garnett attended Hillcrest Middle School, where he played basketball. However, he didn’t begin competing on the school team until he transferred to Mauldin High School.

Although Garnett was playing basketball successfully at school, an unfortunate incident occurred, and he got into a racially motivated fight. Kevin was detained for lynching in the second degree, and despite all charges being dropped, he chose to leave Mauldin.

He was transferred to Chicago’s Farragut Career Academy, where he finished his senior year. Garnett excelled in basketball and was voted USA Today’s National High School Player of the Year.

Around the same time, he was named Most Outstanding Player, and to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the McDonald’s All-American High School Boys Basketball Game, he was named one of the 35 Greatest McDonald’s All-Americans.

Career Overview

Garnett was the first player selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves, home to Karl-Anthony Towns and Malik Beasley, in the 1995 NBA Draft, right out of high school. The Timberwolves’ new head coach put him into the starting lineup. He had a respectable debut year despite not yet being a superstar.

With the Minnesota Timberwolves, Garnett had an immediate impact and helped them to eight consecutive post-season appearances. He won the NBA MVP Award in 2004 while leading the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals.

Garnett is tied for the third-most All-Star selections in NBA history after being selected to 15 All-Star Games and winning the All-Star MVP award in 2003. In addition to being chosen nine times for All-NBA Teams and twelve times for All-Defensive Teams, he was crowned the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2007-2008.

In a sensational deal in 2007, Garnett joined the Boston Celtics with Gordon Hayward, Daniel Gibson, and Jermaine O’Neal, after playing with the Timberwolves for 12 seasons. In his first season with the Celtics, he finished third for the MVP award and helped lead them to the NBA title.

Garnett was part of a second notable deal in 2013 that sent him to the Brooklyn Nets along with veteran Celtic Paul Pierce. He was traded back to Minnesota in 2015, and in September 2016, he declared retirement from the basketball league. Garnett joined the cast of TNT’s “Inside the NBA” in October 2016 and took over as the host of his program, Area 21, the following month.

In 2004, Garnett signed another 9-figure contract with the Timberwolves, worth $100 million. Not many NBA players have signed multiple 9-figure contracts in the league’s history. At one point, Garnett was the NBA player with the most lifetime earnings in the sport’s history.

Kevin Garnett earned a jaw-dropping $334.3 million in salary during his NBA career. His time spent playing at Minnesota accounts for nearly $218 million.

After retiring from basketball, Kevin was looking for business opportunities that he could join. He was particularly interested in buying a basketball franchise as he felt that players who helped to build the business should get a shot at owning a piece of the action.

Endorsements

Garnett joined Nike after graduating from high school, departed after five years to join AND1, and then joined Adidas. He introduced the first Air Garnett at the 1998 All-Star Game, becoming just the 10th Nike player to do so. His most well-known pair would turn out to be the Air Garnett 3.

Kevin Garnett was the first All-Star player to secure a multi-million-dollar endorsement deal with Chinese sportswear company Anta in 2010. He had previously made around $2 million annually at Adidas when the Chinese sportswear giant approached him with a better offer.

Garnett also acquired a limited ownership stake in the Italian Serie A soccer team, A.S. Roma, in 2011. His investments and endorsement deals make up most of his additional revenue streams.

In 2019, he debuted in a feature film, playing a fictionalized version of himself in Uncut Gems. He has also dabbled in acting, becoming a member of the Inside the NBA cast on TNT.

Real Estate

Unfinished Miami Mansion

In July 1997, Kevin Garnett paid $3.6 million for a 7-acre plot of land along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. Garnett spent many years designing and obtaining planning permission to build an 11,000-square-foot home on the property. He began construction but decided to sell before the mansion was fully complete. In 2018, he listed the property for $19.9 million. It sold for $16 million in 2021.

Minnesota Home

In August 2006, while playing for the Timberwolves, Garnett paid $6.05 million for a 12,129-square-foot home in Long Lake, Minnesota. Regarding the sale of this home, most news websites stated that he sold the house in October 2022 for $9 million. However, according to public records, the house was also sold in February 2007 for $6.45 million, roughly four months before he was traded.

Thus, he either bought the property for $6.05 million in August 2006, realized he would be traded, and sold the house for $6.45 million shortly after. Alternatively, he paid $6.45 million in February 2007 and waited until 2022 to sell.

Personal Life

Garnett wore apparel bearing the “OBF”—official block family—label. The name was inspired by the people he considered his closest friends from Beechwood Court in Mauldin, South Carolina. He invited OBF members to live with him in his Minnesota home and allowed them to travel with some teams on charter aircraft.

Kevin met Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, Grammy-winning record producers for Boyz II Men, Ice T, and Janet Jackson, in Minnesota early in his career and regarded them as mentors.

In a private ceremony in California, Garnett wed his long-time partner Brandi Padilla in July 2004. The couple had two daughters, but the relationship soured, and Garnett’s wife filed for divorce on July 12, 2018, requesting custody of the children in the process.

Garnett is a half-brother to former NBA star Louis McCullough, and Shammond Williams, a retired Los Angeles Laker and professional basketball player, is another relative. Simon & Schuster released Garnett’s book, co-written with David Ritz, titled “KG: A to Z: An Uncensored Encyclopedia of Life, Basketball, and Everything in Between”, in February 2021.

Awards & Achievements

Here are some of the more memorable moments from Kevin Garnett’s career:

  •  Kevin Garnet was part of the USA team that won the Olympic Gold in 2002.

Summary

Garnett played twenty-one seasons in the NBA and achieved great things with every team he played for.

He was regarded as one of the most valuable players in the NBA, and his huge contracts proved this. Now that he is retired, he still tries to help where he can and has invested vast amounts of his money in sports to help others achieve greatness.

We first researched Zion Williamson’s net worth in 2020. He was estimated to be worth $8 million back then, but that was when he only earned $9 million yearly. Since then, he’s gained an additional $68 million in salary and roughly $50-$60 million from endorsements.

In 2025, Zion Williamson’s net worth is estimated to be $18 Million.

High School Basketball

Zion Williamson started making a name for himself in high school, winning the Under Armour Elite 24 showcase dunk contest.

During his junior season, Williamson went viral with his highlight videos, and Drake even wore his jersey in an Instagram post. After surpassing 2,000 points in January 2017, Williamson appeared on the cover of Slam and received All-USA First Team Honors.

Williamson finished his high school career as South Carolina’s Mr. Basketball and the runner-up to Mr. Basketball USA. In a live interview on ESPN, Williamson committed to attending Duke University, playing his first game for them in November 2018.

Duke University

Zion Williamson started his collegiate career strong and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week. Soon after, he broke the record for the most points recorded in a single game and was named ACC Freshman of the Week once more.

Unfortunately, in February 2019, Williamson was benched with a knee sprain after his shoe broke, causing him to slip. Following the incident, Nike’s stock dropped $1.1 billion, while Williamson earned Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year honors. He then appeared in the NCAA Tournament, joining Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis as the third freshman to earn 500 points, 50 steals, and 50 blocks in a season.

New Orleans Pelicans

After entering the 2019 NBA draft, the New Orleans Pelicans selected Zion Williamson with the first pick. Unfortunately, Williamson tore the cartilage in his knee during the preseason, delaying his debut until January 2020. However, once he was on the court again, Williamson wasted no time making a name for himself and racking up points. In his first eight games, he scored at least 20 points in four consecutive games, the longest 20+ point streak by a rookie Pelican.

Soon after, he surpassed Carmelo Anthony as the first teenager to score at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games in NBA history. He became the first rookie since Michael Jordan to earn 16 20-point games within their first 20 contests.

Following his rookie season, Zion Williamson tied Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for the longest 20-point streak in his first two seasons. His streak eventually surpassed Wilt Chamberlain and Karl Malone’s streaks, tying him with Shaquille O’Neal’s record of 25.

While things were going well for the basketball star, during the 2021 off-season, he suffered a fracture in his foot and underwent surgery. Williamson missed the entirety of the 2021-2022 season, but in July 2022, he signed a five-year extension with the Pelicans.

He returned in October 2022 and earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors before being sidelined with a hamstring injury in January. Ultimately, he ended up sitting out the rest of the season and returning in November 2023. Although he returned strong, on April 16, 2024, he suffered another injury during a game against the L.A. Lakers.

In 2023, Williamson signed his five-year rookie extension with the Pelicans, valued at $197.2 million. Again, the deal is fully guaranteed and increases Williamson’s average annual salary from $11.1 million to $39.5 million. Thus far in his NBA career, Zion Williamson has already earned $77.7 million with an additional $157.7 million in guarantees remaining.

Endorsements

As the number one pick in the 2019 NBA draft, brands lined up to sign high-value endorsement deals with Zion Williamson. In the year the Pelicans selected him, a bidding war took place to obtain Zion on a shoe endorsement contract, with Nike winning out over the competition.

Williamson signed a 7-year deal with Nike Jordan worth $75 million, averaging $10.8 million/year. It was recorded as the most valuable NBA shoe deal since Nike signed LeBron in 2003. Zion released his first signature shoe, the Jordan Zion 1, in April 2021, and he has since released two more.

In the same year he signed with Nike, it was reported that Williamson signed a multi-year deal with Gatorade, which is estimated to earn him a 7-figure sum annually. Thanks to his big brand deals with Nike and Gatorade, Forbes estimated Zion Williamson’s endorsement income to be $20 million in 2020. Estimates of Zion’s annual endorsement income fell significantly to $12 million for 2023.

Williamson has also worked with brands such as:

  • Bolt 24
  • Mountain Dew (Commercial with Zach LaVine)

  • Slam
  • Starry

In May 2020, Zion Williamson reportedly paid $730,000 for a 5,954-square-foot, five-bedroom home in New Orleans, Louisiana. The property had previously been listed for $874,500 and was pending sale at $839,900. Williamson still owns the house.

Seattle Supersonics Contracts & Salary

In 2007, Kevin Durant signed a four-year rookie contract with the Seattle Supersonics worth $19.5 million. The deal was fully guaranteed, and Durant earned $4.2 million in his first season in the NBA. When the team relocated to Oklahoma in 2008, Durant earned $4.5 million, followed by $4.8 million in 2009 and $6.1 million in 2010.

In 2011, he signed a five-year maximum rookie extension with Oklahoma valued at $89.2 million. The deal was fully guaranteed, increasing his average annual salary to $17.8 million. He earned $12.5 million in the contract’s first year and $20.1 million in the fifth and final year.

Golden State Warriors Contracts & Salary

In 2016, Durant signed a two-year contract with the Golden State Warriors worth $54.3 million. However, the deal ultimately turned out to be a one-year contract, and he earned $26.5 million. A similar scenario unfolded in 2017 when he re-signed with the Warriors on a two-year deal, which was later reduced to a one-year deal worth $25 million.

Again, in 2018, he signed a two-year deal with the Warriors, which became $30 million over one year. In 2019, Kevin Durant signed the first nine-figure contract of his career, a four-year, $164.3 million deal with the Golden State Warriors, which was facilitated under a sign-and-trade agreement.

Durant was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, where he would earn $38.2 million in 2019, $38.8 million in 2020, and $42 million in 2021. These annual numbers are estimated to include roughly $1 million in incentives.

Phoenix Suns Contract & Salary

Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns during the latter half of the 2022/23 season, where he signed a four-year, $194.2 million contract. This is his current active contract, which earned him $46.4 million in 2023. He is estimated to earn just under $50 million for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Thus far in his NBA career, Kevin Durant has earned $396.7 million and is still guaranteed roughly $103 million on his current active contract, which could put his total NBA earnings at $499.8 million by the end of the 2025/26 season.

PSG Investment

Kevin Durant became a minority shareholder in the French soccer club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), by investing several million dollars indirectly through Arctos Sports Partners. The investment firm acquired a 12.5% stake in the club in 2023, which has since risen in value to $4.6 billion.

In August 2024, Durant officially joined PSG’s ownership, further expanding his business ventures. While the financial specifics of his investment remain private, it reflects the growing trend of NBA players investing in European football clubs. Durant’s involvement aims to enhance PSG’s brand presence in the U.S. ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The partnership is expected to include collaborative content creation and strategic development between Boardroom Sports Holdings and PSG, with a focus on innovation and excellence, particularly in youth and women’s teams. This move mirrors similar investments by other athletes, such as LeBron James’ stake in Liverpool FC in 2011 and Tom Brady’s investment in Birmingham City in 2023. Durant’s participation as an investor is anticipated to significantly bolster Paris Saint-Germain’s marketing and sponsorship efforts in the United States.

In June 2025, Kevin Durant reportedly invested an additional eight-figure sum into PSG through his own company, Boardroom Sports Holdings, which means he now holds a direct ownership stake in the club.

Real Estate

Oklahoma Home

In April 2011, Durant paid $1.8 million for a 5,744-square-foot, five-bedroom home in Oklahoma City. In July 2013, he returned the property to the market, looking for $1.95 million, and increased the price to $2.2 million in November. According to reports, the home eventually sold in 2016 for just $1.1 million, resulting in a significant loss.

Miami Condo

In April 2011, Kevin purchased a 3,535-square-foot, three-bedroom apartment in Miami’s Biscayne Bay area for $1.825 million. When it came time to sell in 2015, Durant profited significantly, listing the unit for $3.45 million and selling it for $3.15 million.

Malibu Beach House

In April 2018, KD paid $12.05 million for a four-bedroom beachfront home in Malibu, California. The property was initially listed for $12.45 million before Durant snagged a $400,000 discount. A year later, he listed it for sale or rent at $13.5 million or $70,000 per month, respectively. The house sold for $12.15 million to CSI creator Anthony Zuiker in June. The property taxes for the year KD owned the beach house amounted to $156,000.
